1.8 Maximum Penalty
The maximum penalties are as follows:
Convicted by an officer at or below the rank of Federal Agent/Leading Senior Constable: Up to $100,000 in fines and 30 minutes of imprisonment
Convicted by an officer at or above the rank of Station Sergeant/Supervisor: Up to $200,000 in fines and 60 minutes of imprisonment
Convicted by an officer at or above the rank of Inspector: Up to $400,000 in fines and 90 minutes of imprisonment
Convicted by a Judicial Officer: Unrestricted issuing of fines and imprisonment as determined by the judicial officer
Courts may make an application to the Senate for the death penalty
An officer may only impose penalties up to the maximum permitted for their own rank. They cannot rely on another officer’s authority to exceed their limits.
