1.18 - Self Defense

An individual shall not be held criminally responsible for an offense if they engage in conduct constituting the offense in self-defense, provided that the individual reasonably believes such action is necessary to protect themselves or another person from imminent harm, or to prevent the unlawful destruction or damage of their property. The belief in the necessity of self-defense must be objectively reasonable, and the force used must be proportionate to the perceived threat.

Self-defense does not apply if the individual initiated the confrontation with the intent to cause harm or if the force used exceeds what is necessary to neutralize the threat.
