9.1 Stream Sniping and Livestreams

Stream sniping is the act of using a player’s Twitch or Youtube stream (etc) to obtain and apply information in-game instead of learning or obtaining it IC. This is a form of metagaming.

  1. This also includes viewing a player’s stream in order to learn their location so that you can meet with them in game. If even you roleplay that they have emailed you or that you have ‘bumped into each other,’ this is metagaming. You must not use any information obtained by viewing a stream in game.

  2. We take stream sniping extremely seriously. Stream sniping not only damages the community’s RP experience by metagaming, but it discourages streamers from streaming their experiences on Eclipse City as there is a concern that doing so will compromise anything shown on stream. Stream sniping will result in serious disciplinary action. We have zero tolerance for stream sniping and it is highly likely that offenders will receive an immediate permanent ban.

  3. Communicating with streamers or other community members in a streamer’s chat to exchange in-game information is metagaming.

    1. This includes things like telling a streamer or another player ‘I’m here,’ ‘go to Grove Street,’ and ‘I’ll be there in five minutes.’

    2. Attempting to provide information that a streamer does not know in their chat is metagaming on the part of the chatter, even if the streamer does not act on it or does not acknowledge it.

Stream chats are regularly monitored by staff and community members. We take metagaming in streaming extremely seriously and it will be met with disciplinary action.
